JI to hold referendum on CTBT
Recorder Report
LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami will hold a referendum on 23rd to ascertain whether the public opinion is in favour or against the signing of the CTBT.
Addressing a news conference here on Thursday, JI city chief Mian Maqsood Ahmed urged the government to help Jamaat to hold the referendum smoothly all over the country.
Disclosing details of the arrangements in the Lahore district, he stated that the referendum aimed at extending moral courage to the government to refuse signing the CTBT.
He, however, ruled out the impression that the JI was holding this referendum on the behest of Army.
He said that 2500 polling stations would be set up throughout the district, out of which 500 would be mobile stations.
He claimed that majority of the citizens were against the treaty. He said that from March 03, Jamaat would launch a series of activities to mobilise public for their participation in the referendum.
