Czech Senate votes for sanctions against Taliban

PRAGUE: The Senate, which is the upper house of the Czech parliament, has voted in favour of the Czech Republic joining international sanctions against the Taliban.

The bill still needs to be signed into law by President Vaclav Havel before it can take effect, Czech news agency CTK reported on Thursday.

The sanctions passed by the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of parliament, include the freezing of financial activities, a ban on flights to Afghanistan and limiting business transactions and services.-Internews
