Commissioner asked to expedite route proposals to improve city traffic

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Secretary Mohammed Zubair Kidwai has asked the Commissioner, Karachi to expedite proposal regarding alternative routes for public service vehicles (PSV) in Saddar and Merewether Tower areas to overcome traffic flow congestion.

The proposal for alternative routes was submitted to the Chief Secretary but the DIG Traffic.

The DIG Traffic had informed that in order to reduce heavy congestion of PSVs in Saddar and Merewether areas, the problem had been referred to Commissioner, Karachi and the RTA Chairman for necessary action.

He had proposed that routes of buses, mini-buses and coaches entering in Saddar area from Sharea Faisal and Rafiq Shaheed Road may terminate at Lucky Star instead of coming via Mansfield Street, Shahrah-e-Iraq and Mir Karam Ali Talpur Road.

According to his proposal the routes of buses, mini-buses, coaches coming to Saddar via Dr Dawoodpota Road and heading for M A Jinnah Road via Preedy Street crossing should divert from the junction of Sarwar Shaheed Road, Lucky Star, Naval Headquarter, Iqbal Shaheed Road, Qazi Chowk, Capt Fareed Bukhari Road, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Old Exhibition and on to their normal route instead of using internal roads of Saddar and Dr Dawoodpota Road.

Similarly, the routes of PSVs approaching Saddar via Mansfield Street, should go straight to M.A Jinnah Road instead of taking turn towards Mansfield Street.

The DIG Traffic proposed that vehicle heading for Cantonment Railway Station may adopt route via Mansfield Street, Mir Karam Ali Talpur Road, Dr Dawoodpota Road. APP
