Congress opens

HYDERABAD: Dr A Q Ansari, The chairman, Chief Executive's Literacy Commission has called upon the teaching community to bring about changes in the concept of teaching and methodology in the higher seats of learning.
He was inaugurating a three-day 20th Pakistan Congress of Zoology at the Madr-e-Millat Fatima Jinnah Gymnasium, Sindh University Campus Jamshoro here on Tuesday.
The congress has been organised jointly by the University of Sindh and the Zoological Society of Pakistan.
He appreciated the work of zoologists in the field of research and added that the research scholars of the country must concentrate on research in every field of endeavour.
Dr Ansari suggested that Sindh University should introduce biology as a separate subject in all its affiliated colleges.
He called upon the research scholars, scientists and university professors to single out those areas of research which were economical for the development of the country.
He said the promotion of research culture at the campuses was need of the hour.
In his presidential address, the vice chancellor of Sindh University Dr Rashid A Shah said that it was a great honour for Sindh University to host the 20th Congress of Zoology.
He announced Dr Ahmed Mohyuddin Khan Gold Medal for position holder in zoology, DR M. A. Kazi Medal for the top student of Dr M A Kazi Institute of Chemistry and a gold medal for the best student in the department of mathematics.
These gold medals, he said, will be awarded in the next congress of zoology.
The dean faculty of natural sciences Sindh University Dr Abdul Hussain Shah Bokhari, in his address of welcome, highlighted the importance of the congress.
About 200 delegates from Middle East, Saarc and universities of Pakistan and participating in the congress.
