Clinton leaves Oman en route to Geneva summit
MUSCAT: US President Bill Clinton left Oman after a brief stop on Saturday night on his way to Geneva for talks with Syrian President Hafez al-Assad on Middle East peace.
Clinton flew in from Islamabad where he had held talks with Pakistani military ruler General Pervez Musharraf on the last leg of his six-day tour of south Asia.
For security reasons Clinton travelled from Islamabad in a white, unmarked C-20 Gulfstream jet instead of an aircraft with US. markings. But he left Oman on one of the two Boeing 747s that usually serve as his Air Force One aircraft.
He was greeted at Muscat airport by an honour guard and a delegation of Omani officials. Clinton then went into the terminal building for a meeting with Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
US. officials said the two would discuss issues important to the region, including world oil pricing and supply.-Reuters
