KMC to ban
Qurbani on
roads
KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is considering ban on slaughtering of sacrificial animals in streets or in front of their doors or houses on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha so as to check insanitary conditions.
However, better slaughtering places will be selected at mohallah level with provision of better facilities to people.
The matter came under consideration at a meeting of district administrators held under the chairmanship of KMC Administrator Brig Abdul Huq (Retd).
It was decided to constitute a committee to submit a report within three months in this respect.
The meeting decided that for better arrangements on next Eid-ul-Azha, homework be started straight away and a comprehensive policy be chalked out which may also incorporate the provision of better slaughtering facilities to citizens.
It was decided that like Eid prayer, a place should also be selected where people could perform "Qurbani" one after the other or collectively. The KMC will provide all required facilities in this regard. The offals of sacrificial animals would also be lifted immediately from that place.
The committee was constituted under the convenorship of DMC West Administrator Mohammed Umer Khan with all district health officers as its members. The committee will meet on weekly basis and will identify a place at every Muhallah level where the people could perform "Qurbani".
Speaking on the occasion Administrator Abdul Huq appreciated the performance of District Municipal Corporations on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha and observed these corporations took appropriate measures for immediate removal of offals and maintaining sanitary conditions.
However, he said, there is need for devising a system which may produce better results. He said an improved system would also facilitate the municipal organisations as well as the citizens.ÑAPP
