KCCI chief hails
CE's election
programme
KARACHI: President Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Amjad Rafi said on Thursday that constitution of reconciliation committees would greatly help in providing justice to the common man.
Giving his reaction over the announcement of Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf about elections of local bodies and district assemblies, he said it is a very positive step.
He said courts are extremely over-burdened with the large number of cases, pending for want of time, adding "justice delayed is justice denied."
Appreciating the move to reduce the age of voters, Rafi said it will involve younger generation in election process as well as increasing the number of voters in the country.
KCCI chief said equal participation to women in election process is also a welcome move which will bring in honest and sincere legislators in decision making.
He also appreciated the allocation of seats to growers, workes and minorities in these institutions.
He however, said this system is totally new to people of Pakistan and it has to be seen how it works.
Leading women in various spheres of life have widely welcomed the decision of Chief Executive to give equal participation to females in the proposed local bodies elections and district assemblies.
Chief of literacy committee of 'The Reformers', a non-political organisation Zakia Haider said that women participation in these institutions will improve their working as well as provide a chance to female leaders to change all those discriminatory laws and norms against women folk particularly in less developed areas.
Prominent writer Fatima Surayya Bajya said that women had played very important role in the history of Islam and they should be given chance to repeat their performance.
She said the country now badly needed their role as they work honestly, sincerely and with dedication.
