Karo-Kari claims 123 lives in Sindh
KARACHI: Some 123 persons including 93 women were killed in Sindh in the name of honour (Karo-Kari) since the start of this year. According to a survey, some 33 persons including 24 women were reportedly injured during the same period but timely rescue saved their lives. Every year, in Sindh, Karo-Kari claims thousands of lives in which a man or a woman is brutally killed by their own close relatives. Among the other reasons, marriage against the will of the family elders was the major cause of these killings. In some cases it is suspected that this custom has been used to satisfy some old enmity.ÑPPI
Seminar against polio
DADU: The District Health Office (DHO) Dadu on Wednesday arranged a seminar to create awareness against polio among people. The seminar was organised with the collaboration of WHO at DHO Office here. Representatives of WHO and District Health officer Dadu addressing on this occasion stressed the need to create awareness among the masses, specially in rural areas against polio disease.ÑAPP
Nawabshah anti-encroachment campaign
NAWABSHAH: Nawabshah Municipal Committee (NMC) has decided to launch an anti-encroachment campaign by the end of March. Chief Municipal Officer, NMC, Rasool Bux Nizamani, talking to PPI disclosed that during the campaign encroachments would be demolished from the main areas of the town including Moni Bazaar main road, streets near railway overhead bridge of Moni Bazaar, Buchery Road and Eidgah Road. he said earlier planned anti-encroachment campaign owing to Eid-ul-Azha could not take off. Now in view of growing complaints from the affected people, 150 notices have been issued to illegal encroachers asking them to remove their unlawfully built structure voluntarily otherwise they would be subjected to punitive measures.ÑPPI
Akhtar Zaidi laid to rest
HYDERABAD: Akhtar Zaidi, Sub-Inspector of police, who was shot dead by two unknown armed motorcyclists, was laid to rest here at Baban Shah Graveyard on Thursday. His Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Police Headquarters Ground which was also attended among others by Hyderabad Range DIG Saud Mirza and SSP Mohammed Ramzan Channa. Qasimabad police after lodging the case under sections 302 and 353 PPC, have started investigation and conducting the raids to arrest the killers of SI Akhter Zadi.ÑAPP
Ban imposed on wheat movement
HYDERABAD: The sub-divisional magistrate, Hala has under section 144 CrPC prohibited the transportation/movement of wheat and its products from the limits of Hala sub-division with immediate effect. The ban has been imposed for a period of 60 days.ÑAPP

HYDERABAD: The results of all groups of Higher Secondary Certificate Part-II Supplementary Examination will be announced on March 25. This was stated in a news release issued here by the controller of examinations, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Hyderabad.ÑAPP
