Karachi celebrates
Pakistan Day with
fervour

KARACHI: Pakistan Day was celebrated in Karachi on Thursday with fervour, and jublilation while people renewed their commitment to achieve the objectives laid down in the Pakistan Resolution of March 23, 1940.
Seminars and meetings were held at various places where the significance of the day was highlighted and speakers urged the people to make the country strong, prosperous and a model of Islamic piety.
Special prayers were held in mosques in the morning followed by a 21-gun salute in the provincial capital. Sindh Governor Azim Daudpota, ministers of the provincial cabinet and high-ranking civil and military officials visited the mausoleum of the Quaid-e-Azam to pay homage. They laid floral wreaths at the Mazar of the Quaid.
To provide glimpses of the freedom movement, the National Museum of Pakistan organized a display of some rare documents belonging to the freedom fighters of Pakistan. Photographs of prominent freedom fighters and the heroes of the struggle to achieve Pakistan were also displayed.
Karachi Gymkhana literary committee organized a Mushaira on the occasion. Paragon Jaycee organized a musical evening at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Sports Complex.
Students of the Institute of Business Administration held a festival to celebrate the occasion.
Radio Pakistan and all the three channels of the Pakistan Television organized a number of programmes on the day and all the newspapers brought out special supplements.
The city wore a colourful and festive look as many important buildings were illuminated by multi-coloured bulbs, bunting and festoons.
