85 held in Quetta

QUETTA: Quetta Police on Tuesday night swoop arrested 85 suspects from Kharotabad hitherto considered a 'no go' area for police and law enforcement agencies, Deputy Commissioner Athar Hussain Sial said here on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference here he said those arrested included proclaimed offenders and hardened criminals wanted in many cases of heinous nature. Sial had led the operation while Police was also assisted by Reserve police and Frontier Corps contingents.

He said 16 vehicles and 14 motorcycles were also recovered from the area suspected to be stolen or snatched. Besides two Kalashnikovs, five TT pistols and one revolver along with nine magazines, a large quantity of cartridges of different bores and 10.5 kg of hashish and some quantity of cannabis were also recovered.

He said the area of Kharotabad was considered as heaven for criminals and the law abiding citizens residing there had heaved a sigh of relief following police operation.

He said most of those arrested had been taken into custody on suspicion of their involvement in various crimes.

The DC said on their way back they intercepted nine smuggled vehicles coming from Nushki side and took them into custody along with their drivers. The vehicles would be released only after verification from Customs authorities, he added. APP
