KARACHI: Inspector General Police Sindh Aftab Nabi, has called for a collective crusade against torture and violence on women as will as the evil tradition of " Karo Kari" so that women are emancipated from social oppression and injustices.

He was talking to a women delegation, led by Uzma Noorani, which called on him at Police Head Office on Tuesday.

The delegation informed the Sindh Police chief about various oppressive acts besides social and domestic violence against women and exchanged views on legal and social assistance for such women.

Aftab Nabi said that priorities of police department include to maintain a check on violence against women and various proposals are under consideration in this regard.

He said that a high-powered committee is being set up at Karachi divisional level. This would include senior police officers, representative women NGOs and administration officials.

The committee will take notice of acts of violence against women and examine action against those responsible for such acts besides extending full legal assistance to victims of violence.

The IGP said the police and particularly women police have been issued directive to take stern action in cases of violence against women.Ñ APP
