to improve

road network

KARACHI: The District Municipal Corporation, Karachi East, is embarking upon an ambitious development programme with greater emphasis on improvement of road network, parks and playgrounds.

This was stated by Administrator Tahir Khurshid on Tuesday.

He said a computerised map of 1,777 km long road network has been scanned, identifying the patches which are to be repaired.

The DMC, he said, plans to repair two million sq. feet of roads during the next three months at a cost of Rs 30 million.

He said tenders for the job have been invited and the process is likely to take 10 days to complete. He said the DMC will spent Rs 10 million each month to carry out the work in three months.

Tahir Khurshid said that due to paucity of funds the DMC has no plan at present for construction of new road except for dualisation of Jinnah Road. He said work on this two km long road will be taken in hand next month.

The administrator said already the corporation has computerised the date of its employees along with scanning of their photographs. He said this would greatly check "ghost employees," if any.

He said the DMC has also computerised various utilities in the district on area wise basis besides computerisation of records of its workshop, asphalt plant etc.

Tahir Khurshid said that the DMC will undertake an ambitious programme of computerising its complaint cell. He said the main complaint cell at DMC's Head Office has already been computerised whereas plans were afoot to computerise its 57 complaint centres setup in as many number of Karachi Panchayat Offices within one year.ÑAPP
