LHC summons AAG
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday summoned Assistant Advocate General, Punjab for March 24 in various identical petitions against the tyrannies of jails staff.
The petitions and civil miscellaneous filed by M.D. Tahir advocate submitted that prisoners in the jails were facing hardships due to the tyrannies of the staff.
He informed the court that due to his approach, the execution of a poor paralytic old man has been postponed till the further orders of the court.
He informed the court that the police after implication of three minors Amjad Hussain (12) in rape case, Qamar Abbas (12) in case of illegal arms possession and Nadeem (13) in theft case imprisoned in District Jail Gujrat praying the court to summon the minors and release them.
M.D. Tahir also submitted that all the 130 prisoners of death sentence are suffering from jaundice whereas the jail staff is not providing them any medical facility requesting to direct the jail staff to treat the prisoners as human-beings and provide them doctor and medicines.
Informing about the condition of Central Jails Multan (male and female) submitted that due to the mismanagement the barracks are over crowded. He informed that most of the prisoners were unlawfully fettered and the staff is charging Rs. 2000 to Rs. 5000 to remove fetters.
He also informed that there is no doctor in jail also prayed to bound district and sessions judges, deputy commissioners and commissioners to inspect the jails regularly on rotation basis to redress the grievances of the prisoners.
He informed the court that two African women Rabica Naureen (Muslim) and Petty Veta (Christian) were also imprisoned in Central Jail, Multan in drug trafficking cases praying to shift the women to Adiala Jail because their other family members are also imprisoned there.
Earlier, the court had allowed the petitioner to visit Central Jails Multan (male and female) and District Jail Gujrat and submit report. On it, the petitioner M.D. Tahir visited the jails and submitted 60 pages report to the court in this regard. APP
