India to electrify
195km border
with Pakistan
NEW DELHI: India has given go-ahead for electric fencing of 195km of its international border with Pakistan on a crash basis.
This is the first case of fencing the Indian government has planned on the India-Pakistan border along Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The border stretches from Palanwala in Chamb sector to Madhopur on the Jammu and Kashmir-Punjab border.
The Indian government has set a target of three years for the project, which after completion would add up to 1682km of electrified international border. This includes 1035km in Rajasthan and 452km in Punjab.
The government has also approved a comprehensive proposal for construction of fencing and flood lighting on raised embankments, border roads, link roads and border outposts in 310km of Rann of Kutch in Gujrarat at a cost of Rs 3.8 billion.ÑPPI
