Employees Old Age Benefits Act amended

ISLAMABAD: President Rafiq Tarar has promulgated the Employees Old Age Benefits (Amendment) Ordinance which shall come into force at once.

Following is the text of the Ordinance:

"Ordinance No. IX of 2000

An Ordinance further to amend the Employees' Old Age Benefits Act, 1976.

Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Employees Old Age benefits Act, 1976 (XIV) of 1976, for the purposes hereinafter appearing;

And whereas the National Assembly and the Senate stand suspended in pursuance of the Proclamation of Emergency of the fourteenth day of October, 1999, and the Provisional Constitution Order No. 1 of 1999, as amended:

And Whereas the President is satisfied that circumstances exist which render it necessary to take immediate action;

Now, therefore, in pursuance of the aforesaid Proclamation of the fourteenth day of October, 1999, and Provisional Constitution Order No. 1 of 1999, as well as Order No. 9 of 1999, and in exercise of all powers enabling him that behalf, the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is pleased to make and promulgate the following Ordinance:-

1. Short title and commencementÑ (1) This Ordinance may be called the Employees Old Age Benefits (Amendment) Ordinance, 2000.

(2) It shall come into force at once and shall be deemed to have taken effect on the first day of January, 2000.

2. Amendment of the Schedule, Act No. XIV of 1976. In the Employees' Old Age Benefits Act, 1976, in the Schedule,-

(a) in paragraph (2),Ñ

(i) in the proviso for the words "four hundred and twenty-five", the words "six hundred and thirty" shall be substituted; and

(ii) for the word, comma and figure "July, 1991", the word, comma and figure "January, 2000" shall be substituted;

and

(b) paragraph (3) shall be omitted."ÑAPP
