ISLAMABAD

The dollar gained 10 paisa against the rupee in the money markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Monday.

The market commenced the week with a comparatively better greenback at Rs 54.10 as compared to last Thursday's rate of Rs 54. Sellers of the greenback were ready to offload their positions at Rs 54.17 as compared to last Rs 54.10.

Money changers stated the market resumed trading on a moderate note following absence of major buyers and sellers in the morning session. The trade volume expanded in the second session and the market closed on firm note.

They said slight fluctuation in the value of the dollar was because of the change in demand and supply factor for a while. Moderate number of buyers and sellers visited the market during both sessions.

Japanese yen was bought and sold at Re 0.507 and Re 0.51 respectively.

Pound sterling started the day at Rs 85.15 (buying) as compared to previous Rs 85.20. It moved between Rs 85.15 and Rs 85.25 and was sold at Rs 85.60. The firm position of pound against the dollar in the international market did not affect its value in the kerb.

UAE dirham was bought and sold at Rs 14.78 and Rs 14.82 respectively. Saudi riyal opened at Rs 14.43 and sellers offered three paisa more at Rs 14.47.

German mark remained higher in the kerb as it started the day at Rs 26.90.

Mark was sold at Rs 27.10 with expansion in overall turnover in the evening session.
