Acer's pentium III mobile PC now available in market

Lahore: Acer Computers, the third largest computer company of the world, has started supplying Pentium-III mobile PC in the Pakistani market.

The Travel Mate 734 TL, which is powered by the latest Intel Pentium-III processors with speed-step technology, is being introduced in the Pakistani market for the first time. It is capable of operating effectively at speeds of upto 800 MHz, says a press release issued here on Monday.

Highlighting the salient features of the Travel Mate 734 TL, Acer Computers (M.E.) Ltd. General Manager, Adrian Chang said it is targeted at the professional business user segment and MIS departments.

"In order to effectively target this user segment, we have ensured that the Travel Mate 734 TL is packed with a full range of leading features and showcases Acer's technology and design strengths," he said.

According to Chang, one of the key challenges in mobile computer design is dissipation of the heat generated within the system. "With more advanced generations of processors being developed and market demands dictating highly compact mobile PC housings, we have developed, in the Travel Mate 734 TL series, a robust and efficient thermal design.

This enables the machine to handle the high cooling needs of the new generation of mobile Pentium III processors with speed-step technology. While these run at speeds of upto 800 MHz they also generate 1.5 percent more heat than a 500 MHz Pentium III processor would," elaborated Chang.

"The new speed-step technology incorporated in the new generation of mobile Pentium III processors enable the machine to run different processor speeds for different applications. This results in considerable power saving when the processor is stepped down to a lower speed," said Chang.
