India, Pakistan exchange fire in Kashmir
SRINAGAR: India and Pakistan exchanged fire in disputed Kashmir on Sunday, hours before U.S. President Bill Clinton began a South Asian tour.
Clinton was expected to try to ease tensions between India and Pakistan during his six-day tour, which includes a brief stopover in Pakistan next Saturday.
"Heavy mortar shelling is going on in Akhnoor, R.S.Pura and Pallanwala sectors. So far there are no reports of casualties," an army official told Reuters in Srinagar, before Clinton landed in New Delhi.
The firing was close to the southernmost end of the Line of Control (LoC).-Reuters
