DMC East removes

0.21m offals during

Eid

KARACHI: The DMC East removed about 0.21 million offals of sacrificial animals during the three days of Eid-ul-Azha.

According to DMC East, it removed some 95,000 offals on the first day; 82,000 on second day and 33,000 on the third day.

On the instruction of Administrator Tahir Khurshid, the DMC Staff lifted offals even from Cantonment Area, Dalmia Road and Metroville, which do not fell in its jurisdiction.

The DMC had set up 75 collection points besides arranging 15 wireless stations, 56 complaint centres in Panchayat offices, five zonal complaint centres, one central complaint cell. Complaints were also received at pagers provided to chief sanitary inspectors.

The officials lifting vehicles were despatched in the morning on Eid days under direct supervision of the administrator and 108 vehicles operated from dawn to dusk under supervision of 13 vigilance officers.

For the first time a certificate from a vigilance officer to the Health Department was made essential and an area was declared "clean" only on the issuance of such a certificate.

Administrator Tahir Khurshid, Municipal Commissioner Moinuddin, District Medical Superintendent Dr. Shaukat Zaman, Additional Director Health Dr. Mukhtar Palejo remained in the field all the time. They remained in contact with 15 wireless stations and ensured redressal of complaints.

The ratio of complaints this year remained at less then 25 percent which showed the effectiveness of arerangements made.

Meanwhile DMC East Administerator in a special news briefing said this year the district corporation made better usage of its resources to remove offals in time under a modern mechanised system.

He said the use of wireless system this year facilitated the expeditious disposal of complaints.

He said on the DMC pressed 108 suzukis and 432 coolies into serviceÊÑ 86 suzukis and 344 coolies on the second day and 23 suzukis and 92 coolies on the third day.

Tahir Khurshid noted the number of complaints this year was almost negligible for which the DMC officials and staff deserve appreciation.

He said this year the offals removal work with maintenance of sanitary conditions was done in an organised and systematic manner.

He said removal of over 0.21 million offals was not an easy task but provision of relief to people was facilitated by wireless system.ÑAPP
