Business activity gets momentum as hide prices fall by 50 pc in Multan

MULTAN: Slaughter of hundreds of animals by the believers during three days of Eid-ul-Azha here caused an almost 50 percent reduction in the prices of animal hides in the market.

The business activity in other sectors here remained dull during Eid except in the markets dealing in livestock related business where abundant availability of animal hides caused an exceptionally high impetus.

Iqbal Ahmed, a businessman dealing in animal hides told APP on Sunday that animal hides market remained active during all the three days of Eid-ul-Azha. He said that the price of goat hides, which were Rs 100 to 150 during normal days came down to Rs 40 to 50 during Eid days. While, the price of cow, bull and buffalo hides were down to Rs 500 to 600 from Rs 1000 to 1200 a piece.

The same trend may continue for a week onward, he added.

Eid-ul-Azha, though involves a number of people, irrespective of their profession, every year in its celebrations, but those dealing in livestock related business such as animal hide dealers, animal farmers and butchers, have to spare some time as the event energizes business activity in this particular sector.

Businessmen dealing in animal hides or those running tanneries remained almost busy during Eid days.

However, the business community in other sectors opted to spend the whole day with their families due to which rest of the main markets and Bazaars gave a deserted look during Eid days.

Eid-ul-Azha also provides an opportunity to part time butchers to earn. The part time butchers manage to make reasonable money by offering their services to believers throughout three days of Eid-ul-Azha every year. APP
