ASI killed in encounter with dacoits

LAHORE: An Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police, Shaukat Ali, was shot dead allegedly by three dacoits at Aliya Town in Shalimar area in the wee hours on Sunday, police sources said.

ASI Shaukat Ali was on patrol on a private motorbike along with Constable Ghulam Abbas.

The sources said Shaukat Ali noticed three suspects speeding away on another bike and signalled them to stop.

The riders instead opened fire on Shaukat Ali, killing him instantly.

The motorbike riders, who were returning after committing a dacoity at a hair-dresser shop, escaped from the scene, leaving behind some scissors and a deck.

Shaukat Ali, who belonged to Chak 3 GB Ram Diwani, Faisalabad, had joined police force as a constable in 1978 and was considered a dedicated police officer.

The body was taken to his native town where he was buried with full police honours. A large number of senior police officials and relatives and notables of area attended the Namaz-e-Janaza. APP
