Earlier, the Governor addressed the notables and representatives of the NGOs of Thar area.

Referring to various suggestions, presented on the occasion, the Governor said that attention would be paid towards resolving the problems, pertaining to drinking water, health and electricity. He said attention would also be paid towards the construction roads in the area.

He said that those projects will be completed first that would involve less expenditures.

About the difficulty of gas, the Governor suggested that LPG and CNG should be used as an alternative for the time being.

He said that Sindh is blessed with big resources of gas, however, he said that laying of gas pipeline would involve a lot of expenditure. However, the provision of gas to Nangerparker would be looked into, he assured.

Meanwhile, referring to the gas pipeline project from Iran to India via Pakistan, he said that in such a case, Pakistan would get a royalty of six hundred to seven hundred million dollars annually. This will not only benefit Pakistan, but it will also be beneficial for the province of Sindh.

Earlier, the notbales and representatives of various NGOs of Tharparkar apprised the Governor of problems of the area and also presented their suggestions.

A former MPA, Ram Singh Sodho, said Thar is facing a number of difficulties, but the problem of immediate nature is drought because there had been no rains for quite some time.

He called for provision of wheat on subsidised rates in Thar through Utility Stores.

Sodho maintained that there were various diseases in Thar because of insufficient diet consumption and pointed towards TB and other diseases.

He also demanded provision of fodder for animals at cheaper rates. Sodho also pointed towards the problem of drinking water in Thar and called for its resolution.

He was of the view that a master plan for Thar should be chalked out and metalled road be constructed from Mithi to Chachro and Nangarparkar and electricity be also made available.

Dr Sono Khangarani suggested that Utility Stores should be set up in Thar and arrangements be made for Micro Credit in the area.

He demanded that money from the Poverty Alleviation Fund be diverted towards Thar area.

S.A. Khan called for the setting up of Thar Development Authority which would work as an independent body to solve the problems of people of the area.

Murad Ali Rahimoon suggested that a Thar advisory council be set up and that small industries should be set up in the area.

President of Baanh Beli Sindh Dr Hussain Bakhsh Kolachi, suggested that Karonjhar Hill should be declared as a national park, natural gas be provided to Mithi and Umerkot towns.

Earlier, the Governor visited Civil Hospital Mithi and the office of Baanh Beli in the Area.

Dr Hussain Bakhsh Kolachi briefed the Governor about the functioning of Baanh Beli in the area.

He said that this organisation has been working for the past 14 years in Thar specially in the fields of Health, Education and Water Supply etc.

He said that Baanh Beli has a strong health team in Thar which includes a lady doctor and a male doctor and is serving especially in preventive health care for mother and children.

The Governor was also shown the Baanh Beli Computer Centre in Thar which is quite a popular project in the area. APP
