Loss of life averted in train blast

SIALKOT: An attempt at blowing up a Wazirabad bound train was foiled on Wednesday at Ugoki Railway Station near here due to timely intervention by the railway authorities.

No one was killed or injured except damage to a compartment.

According to available information, the train was on way to Wazirabad from Narowal when a Passenger of the train drew the attention of the Railways Authorities to an abandoned article laying in the compartment in which 28 passengers were on board. On this an official of Railways opened the article and found the bomb.

Keeping in view the serious gravity of the situation, the whole train was evacuated immediately by the Railways Authorities for averting the huge loss of life.

After 10 minutes of evacuation the bomb exploded as a result of which Ugoki Railway Station and its adjoining areas jolted. The Deputy Commissioner, Shahid Mahmood and other officers of District Administration along with Bomb Disposal Squad rushed the spot.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Shahid Mahmood said that due to timely evacuation of passengers from the train, a great disaster has been averted which could have resulted in great loss of human lives.

He urged upon the people that they should keep a vigilant eye on suspected persons while travelling in the trains and buses adding that if they found anything abandoned they should report immediately to police. Meanwhile people belonging to different walks of life, have urged upon the Railways Authorities to take special measures for avoiding such incidents in future and further tighten security measures.
