KARACHI: President of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Amjad Rafi on Wednesday stressed the need that Pakistan and Czech Republic should explore possibilities of joint venture in industrial sector.
Inaugurating catalogue exhibition of 30 Czech firms at KCCI on Wednesday, he said it was necessary to hold single country exhibition by both the countries to expand trade volume which was very small at present.
He said Pakistan's exports to Czech Republic had increased from $0.3 million in 1992-93 to $8 million in 1998-99, whereas imports, declined to $3.86 million in 1998-99.
He said major export items from Pakistan were textile yarn and fabrics, leather and its products, cane, molasses and sport goods and the items imported from, Czech Republic included cotton, transport vehicles, paper and paperboard, art fibre, drying and tanning materials, rubber tyers, pharmaceutical products and electrical machinery and parts.
Consul General of Czech Republic Jaroslav Olsa said his country was witnessing inflow of foreign capital. Exports were rising rapidly and balance of payments was improving and privatisation process moving very fast.
