5 burnt alive in hosiery fire
RECORDER REPORT
FAISALABAD: Five wage earners were burnt alive in fire in a hosiery of Mohallah Afghanabad No 2 here in the wee hours of Wednesday.
According to reports, five employees of New Light Hosiery, situated in Street No 5 of Mohallah Afghanabad No 2, were sleeping on the second floor of the factory.
Fire is said to have been caused by short-circuiting of the electricity line, the whole building was engulfed by fire instantly.
All the five workers, identified as Nisar s/o Pir Bukhsh, Pressman Ghulam Mohammedabad, Iqbal s/o Qaim Din (over-lock master), of Thikreewala, Naveed s/o Sarwar (knitting machine operator), of Thikreewala, Ibrahim s/o Majeed, (knitting master), of Summandri, Ashraf s/o Hidayat Ali, of Chak No 87 Dijkot, were burnt alive, while two others employees present in the hosiery also received serious burn injuries and have been shifted to Allied Hospital.
Fire engines rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after hectic efforts of many hours. Fire brigade and local administration saved the building adjacent to this hosiery.
The New Light Hosiery was manufacturing export quality products. This fire completely destroyed its machinery along with all paraphernalia. The value of the machinery and tools is reported to be around Rs 4 million.
