Governor suspends

SHO, other staff

for negligence

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Air Marshal Azim Daudpota (Retd) on Thursday placed the SHO Preedy, his three subordinates and Incharge of Preedy Traffic under suspension with immediate effect and ordered action against them on charge of dereliction from duty.

He took the action after he noticed reappearance of encroachments in different areas and bazars and traffic mismanagement in the jurisdiction of Preedy Police Station.

During a surprise visit to District South and some parts of District West, the governor expressed his displeasure over traffic indiscipline and insanitary conditions in some parts.

He cautioned that he would again visit these areas and punitive action will be taken in case his directives remained unimplemented.

It may be mentioned here that during his previous visit and at various meetings, the governor had warned of action against concerned SHOs in case encroachments and traffic mismanagement in their areas.

During his surprise visit on Thursday, the governor walked through Zaibunnisa Market, Abdullah Haroon Road and adjoining roads and streets and showed his displeasure over appearance of 'patharas' and other encroachments as well as double parking and ordered initiation of action in his presence.

The particularly took notice of double parking and other violations in the presence of police personnel.

He directed that permission be granted for erection of sunsheds at Empress Market shops and start of charged parking infront of market.

He, however, made it clear that no 'pathara' or encroachment should be allowed under sun-shed.

During his improtant visit the governor had his reports confirmed that encroachments have started re-appearing in certain areas.

He took notice of insanitation in Shirin Jinnah Colony and warned the concerned authorities that he would again visit the area and in case of continued insanitation, action will be taken against negligent officials.

During the visit the governor mixed up with people and talked to area residents, shopkeepers and drivers at Shirin Jinnah Colony.

He said that besides the provision of civic amenities in the towns and villages of Sindh, the government is also working for the framing of a civilised and disciplined society. The government is keenly working towards this end in cooperation with the people and community. However every citizen will have to play his due role in this regard. Each citizen, shopkeeper, transporter and concerned person will have to realise his responsibility.

He also made it clear to government functionaries that no negligence or slackness in the discharge of their responsibilities and in providing basic facilities to people would not be tolerated.ÑAPP
