KARACHI: The Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) held a reception on Wednesday to honour the senior most serving journalist in Pakistan, Abdul Hamid Zubairi, popularly known as Hamid Bhai, who has the distinction of having completed 60 years in the profession.

A large number of prominent journalists, friends, and colleagues gathered at the Karachi Press Club to felicitate Hamid Bhai who covered the historic 1940's Allahabad session of the All India Muslim League as a budding reporter.

Hamid Bhai, 86, is currently associated with Business Recorder and supervises the news desk.

M. A. Zuberi, Editor, Business Recorder, one of his oldest colleagues paid rich tributes to his professional skills and services as a guide to the younger generations in the profession. Hamid Bhai and M. A. Zuberi have been working together almost for 52 years.

Ahmed Ali Khan, one of the most senior journalists, in the country, who recently retired as editor-in-chief of the Dawn, highlighted Hamid Bhai's contribution to the profession.

Nusrat Hasan, a former bureaucrat and friend from university days said that Hamid Bhai had set a high example of professionalism for which he was known even outside the journalistic fraternity. 'I take my hat off to him.'

Mahmoodul Aziz of UPP paid tribute to Hamid Bhai's commitment to the profession of journalism and said that he never compromised on principles. Praising Hamid Bhai's jolly nature he said, "Happiness is like perfume".

Wahid Bashir, veteran journalist and trade unionist, highlighted Hamid Bhai's literary interests and love of poetry. He recalled that Hamid Bhai has been the founder member of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, Sindh Union of Journalists, Karachi Union of Journalists and Karachi Press Club.

Sarfraz Ahmed, president, KUJ, presented Hamid Bhai with a KUJ souvenir to acknowledge his services.

A traditional ajrak was also presented to Hamid Bhai by his colleagues from Business Recorder.
