Eid gifts distributed among
deserving persons
KARACHI: Over 2,500 widows, orphans, destitutes, disabled and other deserving persons and heirs of police martyrs were presented "Eid packs" containing food items for the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha at a unique ceremony held at the office of Deputy Commissioner Central Javed Hanif here on Wednesday.
The gifts was to be presented by the Chief Secretary Sindh, but because of his pressing engagements, he was represented by Deputy Commissioner.
The gift packs which contained ghee, sugar, tea, rice, atta, vermicelli, milk etc. were donated by North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI).
Deputy Commissioner Javed Hanif, NKATI President Usman Ali Khan, Petron in Chief Capt. Moiz Khan and District Central Zakat and Ushr Committee, Chairman Nafis Ahmed Khan, Col. Asghar of Pakistan Rangers was also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Javed Hanif said the idea of this ceremony was conceived only three days back and was materialised with the help and assistance of the NKATI.
The Deputy Commissioner said the purpose for organising such events is to make the poors to share joys and happiness with other sections' of population, specially, on Muslim festivals.
The government, he said, wants the solution of problems of people at all levels.
He pointed out that a system of providing help to poor and needy sections of population is present in the shape of Zakat. But this system has not yet achieved the standard, which it ought to be. However, serious efforts and endeavours are continuously made in this regard.
Javed Hanif said depression among such classes of people grow, specially, on Eid-ul-Fitr or Eid-ul-Azha and the government tries to help out those, who do not have the resources.
He said on Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid gifts had been distributed among 5,000 poor people.
He called upon other well-to-do people to come forward and extend help to the poor.
He said in District Central there are 7,500 registered deserving people, out of which gift packs were being distributed among 2,500.ÑAPP
