'Benazir will return home if elections schedule announced'
Jalil Hasan Akhtar
Lahore: Benazir Bhutto, chairperson of Pakistan Peoples Party, will return home provided an election schedule was announced in the country. This was stated by Navid Chaudhry special representative of chairperson PPP while talking exclusively to Business Recorder here on Wednesday.
Navid said that Benazir had left the country as political conditions were not ripe for her during the previous regime. The leader will definitely come back and participate in the elections even if she had to fight elections from the prison.
He said PPP was also fully geared to contest Local Bodies polls. It will be better if these elections were held on party basis, he added.
He stated decentralisation programme of the present government was in fact a programme of Benazir Bhutto, who wanted that the power to be transferred to the masses at the grass-root level.
He also criticised the bureaucracy for making a mess of economic situation in the country and said that if the country's economy was to improve their indulgence had to be minimised.
He said Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz had to come out to masses to frame a real substantive economic policy for the country. Replying to a question whether PPP was having any alliance with PML (N), he replied in negative.
The special representative said that there was a lot of difference between PPP and PML (N) agenda. They were striving to save their leadership, while PPP instead of going for personal politics had always endeavoured to work on to save the country agenda, he added.
