Israeli jets attack south Lebanon -security source
NABATIYEH(Lebanon): Israeli warplanes attacked south Lebanon on Monday for the first time since the Arab League warned Israel to stop such attacks and resume peace talks, a security source said.
Two planes fired eight rockets at the area of Ain al-Smahiyeh, north of the eastern sector of Israel's south Lebanon occupation zone, the source said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties in the raid, the first since Arab foreign ministers' meeting in Beirut on Saturday expressed support for Beirut and called on Arab states to reconsider their relations with Israel if it continued its attacks on Lebanon.
The Arab League moved its meeting to Beirut after Israel last month bombed power stations and threatened more assaults if its troops occupying the 15-km (nine-mile) wide zone in the south were attacked.
An Israeli army spokesman in Jerusalem confirmed Monday's raid: "Israeli warplanes attacked terrorist targets in the Nabatiyeh area in the central sector outside the security zone in south Lebanon. All our planes returned safely to base."
In Beirut, the Iranian-backed militant Islamic Hizbollah group claimed responsibility for an attack on Israeli forces in an area facing the raided site.-Reuters
