Cyprian calls for public-private partnership to develop tourism

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Minorities, Sports and Culture Derek Cyprian called for forging public-private partnership to develop tourism in the country which has a vast potential for natural tourism-sports but it is untapped.
The minister was discussing with the representatives of FPCCI the prospects of promotion of sports and tourism industry.
Mian Habibullah former President FPCCI called for preparation of sports & tourism promotion package in consultation with the FPCCI as tourism deserves more attention and priority in the trade and business circles of Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion Derick Cyprian said that the Government will favourably consider FPCCI's recommendations. He disclosed that a comprehensive presentations will be made in this regard to the Chief Executive during the next week.
There is need, he added, for drawing up a strategic marketing plan in consultation with tour operators and professionals. He called for combined efforts by the Government and the private sector with full force to market Pakistan internationally as a tourist destination and make the Visit Pakistan Year in 2001 a big success. He appealed to the business community to come forward to sponsor for promotional activities in Sports, Culture and Tourism industry.
The meeting was also attended by Mian Parvez Aslam, Chairman Islamabad Office of FPCCI, Waqar Aslam Hamdi, President Islamabad Chamber, Mian Muhammad Akram chairman Islamabad Stock Exchange, Acting President, Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Mian Zafar Hamid, Malik Qamar Afzal, a leading Lawyer of Supreme Court and other prominent members of the FPCCI.
