growing lawlessness
RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI: Representatives of the city lawyers on Monday handed over a memorandum to the Sindh governor drawing his attention to growing lawlessness, increase in heinous crimes, and the murder of Iqbal Raad, former advocate general of Sindh and one of the leading defence counsel in the October 12 plane conspiracy case against the former prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, and six others on Friday.
The members of the Sindh High Court Bar Association, Karachi Bar Association, Income Tax Bar Association, Sindh Bar Council and Pakistan Bar Council went to Governor House and handed over the memorandum to the secretary to governor. The governor was busy in a meeting.
Hundreds of lawyers from the district courts and the Sindh High Court had assembled for a protest march. However, they decided to postpone it and instead passed resolutions and prepared the memorandum handed over to the governor..
The President of Sindh High Court Bar Association, Abdul Inam, and the President Karachi Bar Association, Amin Lakhani, and others condemned the increase in crimes that threatened the lawyers pursuing cases in courts.
They condemned the murder of Iqbal Raad, Shahzad Adil Khatri and Ghulam Abbas, and demanded the arrest of the killers and compensation to the families of the victims.
