318,250 tonnes Maize target set for Punjab
RECORDER REPORT
LAHORE: The Punjab government has set a target of 318,250 tonnes for spring maize crop during the year 2000, for which an area of 174,000 acres would be brought under cultivation.
In a meeting it was revealed that 103,457.2 tonnes of maize would be acquired from 50620.8 acres in Faisalabad division; 64,479.3 tonnes from 30,992.7 acres in Multan division; 51,417.6 tonnes from 39,868.2 acres in Rawalpindi division, 43,677.3 tonnes from 20,933.9 acres in Lahore division, 24,050.2 tonnes from 13,711.1 acres in Sargodha division; 12,785.3 tonnes from 6,957.6 acres in Bahawalpur division; 10,988.4 tonnes from 7,080 acres in Gujranwala division and 7,394.7 tonnes from 3,835.8 acres in Dera Ghazi Khan division.
The experts have advised farmers to cultivate only better quality of seed including Akbar, Sadaf, Sultan and Hybrid, with the ratio of 12 to 15 kilograms per acre.
