SOS village silver jubilee celebration

CE assures NGOs all-out assitance

LAHORE: The present regime attaches top most priority to redressal of the problems of people, said Chief Executive Gen Pervez Musharraf on Sunday. He said that the government was well aware of the problems like child labour and child abuse and was taking concrete steps to eliminate this menace from the society.

He was addressing the silver jubilee celebrations of Save Our Soul (SOS) village on Sunday. He said that elimination of such problems was on top of the agenda of his government.The past governments had not given due attention to address such issues of serious nature, he added.

He said that he believed that each and every child had the right to live in a healthy and congenial environment and added that his government was committed to ensure such kind of environment to children in the society,

Mushrraf commended the role of SOS Lahore for its meritorious services for the cause of children. He said that the role SOS was playing in this regard was in conformity with the teachings of Islam. He advised the other NGOs to follow the SOS. He said that NGOs can play a crucial and effective role in the social sector development. The government would extend all-out assistance and financial help to the NGOs working for the uplift of the down-trodden segments of society.

Earlier, in her address of welcome, Suraiya Anwar, President of SOS Children's Village of Pakistan said that six more SOS villages would be established in Hyderabad, Multan, Muzaffarabad, and Mirpur (Azad Kashmir). For this purpose, land has already been handed over to the SOS establishment Pakistan, she added.

The Chief Executive performed the inaugural ceremony of a new building of a primary school of SOS. He also gave away prizes to house mothers.

President SOS Kinderoff International Helmut Kutin, SOS Secretary General Richard Pilchlin, Punjab Governor Lt-Gen (Retd) Mohammad Safdar, federal and provincial ministers and Member Security Council Attya Inyatullah were present on the occasion.
