Aptma asks govt not to impose duty on yarn export
RECORDER REPORT
LAHORE: Acting convenor, All Pakistan Textile Mills Association, Abid Farooq has asked the government to refrain from imposing any duty on yarn export.
Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, he said the government should not be influenced by the misleading advertisements.
He said there is no shortage of yarn in the local market and added out of total production only 25 percent yarn is being exported to various countries.
However, he admitted that only certain types of yarn is temporarily not available in some areas and added this situation would be overcome shortly.
He was of the view that yarn export has enabled the industry to repay their loans, open sick units and also modernise existing machinery of the spinning units.
He said that yarn is not being exported on a price, which is less than the local market price. "If we get good price of yarn within the country then why should we export it," he questioned.
Those who are opposing the yarn export must improve their marketing strategies and also learn to survive with market forces instead of opposing export, he added.
He said inconsistent policies of the previous governments and high production cost had rendered the textile industry incompetitive in the international markets.
He demanded of the government to make necessary legislation for checking the contamination in cotton.
