137 defaulters arrested
OKARA: The district management arrested 137 defaulters during the month of February in tehsil Depalpur and recovered an amount of Rs 13,114,606 as agricultural and other government taxes. Depalpur Assistant Commissioner Shahid Bashir Virk said here while talking to newsmen that the process of arresting the defaulters was in full swing and 57 willful defaulters have been sent to jail. He informed the mediamen that an amount of Rs10 million was also recovered by the ADBP during the last month.ÑPPI
Polio Day on 25th
OKARA: The Polio Day will be observed from March 25 in Okara and vaccination drops will be provided to the children of five years to protect them from polio, Okara District Health Office Dr Mushtaq Ahmed said here while talking to newsmen. He said the arrangements for this purpose were being made to safeguard the children from polio. The help and the services of social and the educational institutions will also be acquired in this regard.ÑPPI
Funds diverted
SAMBRIAL: The federal government has decided to extend the road section in between Aminabad and Sialkot with the earmarked amount of Rs 250 million which was allocated for the construction of Allama Iqbal International Airport Sambrial by the former government. PPI was informed here on Friday. The sources said that the business community of Gujranwala division demanded an international airport during the regime of late Gen Zia-ul-Haq who agreed to this proposal. In the former government of Nawaz Sharif, Rs 250 million were earmarked for this purpose, but the present government has diverted the grant to give extension to Aminabad-Sialkot Road, the sources added. The business community from Sialkot has appealed to Chief Executive Gen Pervez Musharraf to intervene and restore the project of constructing airport as it would be beneficial for whole of the country.ÑPPI
Bomb defused
BAHAWALNAGAR: Panic was created among the people when the bomb disposal squad Bahawalnagar took into possession an unexploded mortar shell of two pounds here from the sewerage live in Chishtian. A municipality worker during cleaning of underground sewerage line found a mortar shell of two pounds which was informed to the bomb disposal squad who reached the spot and defused the shell.ÑPPI
Sham-e-ghazal
LAHORE: Lahore Arts Council is holding a poetry/musical programme "sham-e-ghazal" in connection with Jeshan-e-Baharan on March 11 Ñ 12 (Saturday and Sunday) at Alhamra Arts Council here. Famous classical singers including Iqbal Bano, Dr Amjad Parvez, Ustad Hamid Ali Khan, Parvez Mehdi, Noreen Zuhran and Suhail Ekhlaq will render ghazals on the occasion.ÑAPP
English journalism workshop
LAHORE: The Press Institute of Pakistan is holding a workshop on "Basic English Journalism" at its premises in collaboration with the "Sun International" from March 14 to 15. Leading and senior journalists will deliver lectures to the participants on the subject like reporting, editorial writing, news writing, computer composing, etc. Khwaja M Ejaz Sarwar, Secretary, Information, Government of Pakistan has agreed to give away the certificates to the participants at the end of the workshop on March 15.ÑAPP
