DCET to start

admissions

next month

KARACHI: Dawood College of Engineering and Technology (DCET) will start admissions to First Year of Bachelor of Engineering (BE) from next month, after a lapse of two years, said the Principal of the college, Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Pathan.

In an interview on Friday he said since the DECT had been disaffiliated by NED University, on April 4, 1998, due to academic, financial and administrative problems, no admission have been offered. The present government took interest in the issue and the college got affiliation with Mehran Engineering and Technology University, Jamshoro, on December 21, 1999.

He said the federal government would provide annual grant of Rs 17.5 million to the college but it was still facing shortfall of Rs 12.5 million. The government is currently considering a special grant of around Rs 8 million to enable the college to meet its annual financial requirements.

The college is planning to increase number of seats on self finance basis for the next session to generate funds to overcome immediate financial difficulties, he said.

He said the entrance tests in DCET would be conducted by the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) in order to maintain transparency in the admissions.

He said after disaffiliation from the NED the academic activities in DCET had been suspended. It was gradually coming back to normal under Mehran University which held first year BE examination in December, 1999. The college is now going as per schedule and regular classes are being held normally.

He said DCET, which has five departments, plans to establish three new departments of computer science, information technology and industrial liaison.ÑPPI
