Computerised locomotive engine launched
PESHAWAR: Chairman Railways Lt. Gen. Javed Ashraf Qazi (Retd) on Thursday launched the engine of new model of diesel electric locomotive here at Pakistan Locomotive Factory, Risalpur.
In a briefing regarding the new engine, Chairman Railways was informed that the Locomotive Factory was made with the technical and financial assistance of Japan and the Factory has produced about 23 Locomotive engines of 2,000 horse power. The new locomotive engine of 3,000 horse power is the first ever built by the factory with technical assistance from Adrantz and GE (AGE), a German-US collaboration.
The Locomotive is fully computerised with seven computers installed to facilitate the driver. It has been produced within a period of nine months and handed over to Pakistan Railways. The manufacture of the new engine at Risalpur will save about Rs 240 millions in foreign exchange.
Earlier, the Chairman Railways visited different departments of the Locomotive Factory and saw the process of building the locomotive engines. He posed various questions to the engineers about the construction process.
Later the Chairman planted a sapling in the factory premises. APP
