700 Wapda workers denied selection grades

MULTAN: Wapda authorities denied selection grade to more than 700 workers of thermal power station Muzaffargarh which has been due since 1994.

The affected persons told local newsmen on Monday that member power of Wapda had issued orders (through a notification dated May 23, 1992) that administrative control of three thermal power station Ñ Natural Gas Thermal Power Station, Piran Ghaib, TPS Multan Cantonment, and TPS Muzaffargarh Ñ is placed under chief engineer, TPS project, Muzaffargarh, however seniority of staff of these power stations would not be affected.

NGPs employees challenged this notification in High Court on 1994. Then Wapda withheld the cases of selection grades of three stations till the judgement of the court.

The LHC Multan Bench disposed of this writ petition in August 1999 with these observation that it is a policy matter of the authority and Wapda should take appropriate action and intimate the court.

Upon this Wapda upheld its May 23, 1992 orders issued a fresh notification on September 20, 1999 in this regard.
