Army grabbed power

to divert attention

from border: Kulsoom

LAHORE: Begum Kulsoom Nawaz Sharif has accused the armed forces of conspiring to grab power to divert people's attention from country's frontiers.

Speaking to the Muslim Leaguers at her residence on Tuesday, she said to run the government affairs is a job of the politicians while the responsibility of the armed forces is to safeguard the frontiers besides looking after the innocent civilians near the cease-fire line who are being butchered at the hands of the Indian commandos.

"The armed forces are need at the borders of the country, specially in the wake of the recent Indian aggressive stand over the disputed territory of Kashmir," she maintained.

Sounding positive about the future of the party, Kulsoom said the PML would again rise to the top in near future. "Tomorrow is ours just like the yesterday. All we need to do is organise the party ranks". She stressed the need for forging unity among the party ranks so as to enable the party face any challenge in the days to come.

Criticising the present military regime, Begum Kulsoom said the Musharraf set up, and the earlier coup against an elected Prime Minister, had not served any purpose to the nation. She was of the view the state of affairs, especially the commonman's life, had deteriorated. The present government, she added, had not met success in any field, but had failed in giving a boost to ailing economy despite tall claims all along the way.

She blasted the government for implicating the former Prime Minister in a fake plane hijack case. She said not only the Musharraf led coup sabotaged the constitution, it had put breaks to the ongoing effective policies of the previous government.

Kulsoom Nawaz asked the party workers to gear up, and prepare for handship, if they wished to be remembered in history. She said the time was running out, and the workers as well as leaders would have to pull up their socks for sacrifices to restore democracy.

She pledged the PML-N would wage a struggle for democracy in a manner that no one would dare topple an elected government in future.ÑPPI
