Arif Nakai dies at 70

LAHORE: Former Chief Minister of Punjab, Sardar Mohammad Arif Nakai, died here on Tuesday morning after a protracted illness.

Nakai suffered a heart attack on Saturday at his native village Wan Adhan and was admitted to a private hospital in Lahore, where he breathed his last this morning around 6:00 am.

His body was taken to his native village for burial.

During his 30-year political career, Sardar Arif Nakai, 70, remained vice-chairman Lahore District Council from 1965 to 70. In 1978, he was re-elected and held the portfolio till 1979. He was elected as Member Punjab Assembly in 1985.

In 1995, late Nakai was elected Chief Minister of Punjab after the dismissal of Manzoor Wattoo's government.
