Nawaz, Shahbaz and others to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr in Landhi jail
KARACHI: Deposed Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif and his brother former Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif, will observe Eidul-Fitr on Sunday at Landhi Jail, Karachi for the first time in their political career.
Ghous Ali Shah, ex-advisor to Nawaz Sharif on Sindh Affairs, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi ex-chairman PIA, former I.G Police Rana Maqbool and Saeed Mehdi ex-principal Secretary to Prime Minister also detained on charge of PIA plane hijacking case and hatching conspiracy against the country alongwith Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif on October 12, 1999,will also observe Eid at Landhi jail.
Nawaz Sharif, his brother Shahbaz Sharif, and other family
members were taken into custody or formally arrested by the law enforcing agencies after removal of his government and have been charged with hatching conspiracy to hijack PIA flight PK-805, on October 12, 1999, in which General Parvez Musharraf was returning to Karachi from Colombo.
Asif Ali Zardari,member of suspended Senate and husband of
former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, who is also detained at Central Prison Karachi for the last three years on different charges of corruption and murder of his brother-in-law Mir Murtaza Bhutto, will observe Eid at Central Prison Karachi. He was arrested by police after dismissal of the government of Ms. Benazir Bhuttoon November 6,1996.
Several MQM leaders, including Shoaib Bukhari, and Wakeel Jamali would celebrate eid behind bars. Another MQM leader Dr. Farooq Sattar is under custody of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) at Malir Cantt area, Karachi on charge of corruption in awarding Octroi contract of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).-PPI
