Eid observed
in Peshawar
PESHAWAR: NWFP Governor Lt-Gen Mohammad Shafiq (Retd) on Saturday offered Eid prayers here at Eidgah on Charsadda Road.
Provincial minister for religious affairs, Qari Roohullah, led the prayers. After the prayers, the Governor freely mixed with the people and exchanged greetings with them.
The Eid congregation was largely attended by the people belonging to a cross-section of then society.
Partial Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated in some parts of the province including Afghan refugees camps on Friday.
However, on Saturday, majority of the people celebrated the occasion in a befitting manner throughout the province, with the exception of a few areas in Hazara Division. Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday was celebrated by the people after completing 30 days of fasting.
In Peshawar, Eid congregations were held almost in all the principal mosques including Eidgah, historic Masjid Mohabbat Khan, Jamia Aashrafia etc. The entire Peshawar city was giving a deserted look as outsiders residing in various localities of the provincial metropolis had left for their native village to observe the occasion.
The Ulema and Khateeb in their sermons particularly referred to the plight of the Muslims in Kashmir, Palestine and Chechnya and called upon the Muslim Ummah to rise to the occasion in order to put an end to the ongoing miseries being unleashed on them by the anti-Islamic forces.
The mosques, where Eid-ul-Fitr prayers were not being offered on Saturday displayed cards on conspicuous places of the mosque, indicating the day and time of offering the Eid prayers.ÑAPP
