Fire tenders mount guard at 12 Karachi markets
KARACHI: The fire tenders of Central Fire Brigade (CFB) have taken up guard duties at 12 of the city's major market, city's Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Ataur Rehman said.
Ataur Rehman who recently took over from retiring Fire Service Chief Zamir Siddiqi told APP that the fire tenders took up guard duty at the markets as the last 10 days of the holy month of Ramazan set in, signifying intensification of pre-Eid shopping.
The markets where fire tenders have been deployed include Clifton, Korangi No. 6, Nazimabad/Hyderi, Orangi Town, Liaquatabad, Karimabad, Erum Centre near Nagan Chowrangi, Tariq Road, Saddar and Jama Cloth Market, Bunder Road.
Besides present deployment at the markets additional fire tenders could be called from any of the 13 fire stations of the city when needed.
The present strength of CFB's fire tenders is 52. besides it also has a Snorkel and a Rescue Vehicle equipped with a power generator, ropes, and other rescue requisites.
Central Fire Brigade also operated a Rescue and Response Centre near Hawkesbay Beach. The centre is manned by four divers and is equipped with seaside accident rescue articles includig first aid kit, oxygen supply, bed for accident victim, medicine to treat blue bottle bites and a doctor. However, it has yet to acquire a telephone.ÑAPP
