Essentials prices undergo changes on commodity markets

KARACHI: Variations were marked in essential items on the higher side during the week preceding Eid-ul-Fitr, traders said.

On the higher side were Sugar, basmati, urad, tuver and gram varieties, while tea was firm and plastic mouldings, chemicals and dyes and kirana items were mixed.

Tea was firm during the week. Traders were of the view that variations were expected after Eid.

Milk powder prices were slashed in some cases steeply. Skimmed Nurpur conceded Rs 100 to Rs 2,700. Poland closed lower at Rs 2,300. Full cream instant creme was down by Rs 25 to Rs 2,575. Corolac was down by Rs 200 to Rs 2,900. Green Flag lost Rs 50 to Rs 2,600. Sweetened per carton Omela Holland dropped Rs 25 to Rs 1,750.

Plastic mouldings continued lower with occasional jumps. HDPE blow 5202 rose by Rs 1.50. to Rs 26.50. LDPE MG 20 rose by 25 paisa to Rs 30.25. Polypropylene film Thai rose by 75 paisa to Rs 23. Indonesia rose by same amount to Rs 23 and Kuwait was up by 75 paisa to Rs 23. Polypropylene tape grade Delim was up by 25 paisa to Rs 20.75. Yuplene was up by 20 paisa to Rs 20.75. Thai rose by 25 paisa to Rs 20.75. Saudia was up by 25 paisa to Rs 20.75. PVC Golden Bel dropped sharply Rs 2 to Rs 26. Farmolon shed 75 paisa to Rs 23.75. Iran was down by same amount to Rs 23.75. Hungary Ongrovil 465 dropped Rs 2 to Rs 24. Hungary Ongrovil 5067 dropped Rs 2.5 to Rs 24.25. Saudia lost same amount to Rs 24.25, Thai lost Rs 2 .25 to Rs 24.25. Engro Asahi 675 was quoted last at Rs 26.

Kirana items had good going. However mixed trend was marked throughout. Black pepper from Vietnam was quoted at Rs 14,500. Black pepper from Singapore was quoted down at Rs 14,500. White pepper dropped sharply by Rs 2,200 to Rs 22,200. Mace dropped Rs 200 to Rs 32,400. Small cardamom dropped Rs 1,000 to Rs 28000. Small cardamom form Guatemala shed Rs 1,000 to Rs 27,000. Big cardamom rose by Rs 300 to Rs 17,500. Cloves earlier shed Rs 150 but later recovered Rs 25 to close at Rs 9,325. Coconut oil from Malaysia lost Rs 100 to Rs 1,850. Dry ginger from China conceded Rs 300 to Rs 2,800.. Gum goggal dropped Rs 200 to Rs 2,600. Sago lost and gained Rs 50 to Rs 1,00. Cuminseed rose by Rs 150 to Rs 2,650. Darchini rose by Rs 50 to Rs 3,800. Tamarind lost Rs 40 to Rs 1,600. Almond Katha was up by Rs 50 to Rs 1600. Almond Irani dropped Rs 300 to Rs 7,500.

Chemicals and dyes: Caustic soda flakes Saudi dropped Rs 1.50 to Rs 28. Dop from Germany rose by Re 1 to Rs 61. Formic Acid Germany dropped 40 paisa to Rs 50.60. Oxatic acid China was up by 20 paisa to Rs 21. Petroleum jelly white Iran was up by 60 paisa to Rs 55. Sitara caustic soda flakes was quoted last at Rs 24.55. Rangolite C China rose by 50 paisa to Rs 6,050. Hydrosulphite China 88 percent was up by 70 paisa to Rs 59. Acetic acid Taiwan rose by 20 paisa to Rs 42. Hydrogen peroxide 35 percent Taiwan was up by 50 paisa to Rs 21.50. Dyes: Sulphur dyes China 501 was quoted last at Rs 35.50 Brown GDR conceded Rs 2 to Rs 60. Yellow GR also lost Rs 2 to Rs 64. Sulphur yellow brown was up by Rs 2 to Rs 57, and Sulphur black rose by 50 paisa to Rs 35.50.

Sugar earlier gained inferior by Rs 35 to Rs 1715 and better rose by Rs 10 to Rs 1720 but later inferior dropped Rs 25 to Rs 1690, and better lost Rs 10 to Rs 1710. Gur better type earlier lost Rs 15 to Rs 1650, but inferior type rose later by Rs 25 to Rs 1,250, and Khandsari inferior rose sharply by Rs 100 to Rs 1500.

Basmati old inferior rose by Rs 50 to Rs 2000 and better type was up by Rs 25 to Rs 2325.

Gram garda inferior gained Rs 45 to Rs 2030 and better type rose by Rs 70 to Rs 2070. Beatle I rose by Rs 65 to Rs 2125 and Rs 2150, but later lost inferior Rs 10 to Rs 2115. Fifty-fifty inferior rose by Rs 20 to Rs 2000 and better type was up by Rs 70 to Rs 2090. Irri 9 Sindh old was quoted up at Rs 1200. Tuver Punjab was quoted higher at Rs 2450. Urad Burma inferior rose by Rs 25 to Rs 975 and better type was up by same amount to Rs 1,000. Gram yellow peas rose inferior by Rs 50 to Rs 1,200 and better type up by Rs 45 to Rs 1,220. Dal peas was quoted higher at Rs 1,325, til Sindh New inferior was up by Rs 25 to Rs 1,225 and better type was up Rs 25 to Rs 1250. Rapeseed Nawabshah was quoted at Rs 575 and Rs 600. Cakes rose both type Rs 2 to Rs 177 and Rs 180. Rapeseed Dadu inferior lost Rs 10 to Rs 515, and better lost same amount to Rs 525. Cotton cakes inferior rose by Rs 10 to Rs 295 and better type was up Rs 21 to Rs 305.
