KUJ demands 7th wage board

KARACHI: The president of Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ), Sarfaraz Ahmed, has demanded that the seventh wage board for journalists and employees of newspapers and news agencies be constituted immediately.

He was speaking at an Iftar dinner hosted by KUJ for its members at the Karachi Press Club on Wednesday.

The KUJ president also demanded that the interim relief should be given to the employees of the newspapers and the news agencies.

He urged that it be ensured that the sixth wage board award be fully implemented.

Sarfaraz said that a joint meeting of the executive committees of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation (APNEC) will be held in Karachi from January 15 to 17.

He said that the representatives of the two bodies would sit and discuss the strategy towards the resolution of the problem.

Speaking on the occasion, APNEC President Abdul Hamid Chhapra demanded that the newspapers owners should withdraw their intra-court appeal against the implementation of the sixth wage board award.

He also urged regularisation of contract employees working in various newspapers. APP
