IGP demotes two special branch officials
KARACHI: Inspector General of Police Sindh, Aftab Nabi, Wednesday suspended two officials of Police Special Branch and demoted them to lower grade on charges of misuse of powers, corruption and issuance of fake travel permits.
According to police sources, the IGP had been receiving complaints about Inspector Zia Baluch and Sub-Inspector Ainul Huq of Indian section of the Special Branch alleging they receive large sums from travellers from India for their longer stay in Pakistan.
They not only used to threaten the travellers from India to send them to jail but would also recover large sums from them for issuing fake travel permits, as well as from those desiring to seek Pakistani citizenship. They also used to recover money from incoming and outgoing travellers.
On receipt of these reports the IGP ordered a secret inquiry and when the charge was established, he ordered the suspension of Inspector Zia Baluch and SI Ainul Huq with demotion to the ranks of SI and ASI. APP
