Ex-MPA bailed out in murder case

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday granted bail to a former MPA, Javed Latif, allegedly involved in the murder of one Mukhtar Hussain.

The petitioner contended before the court that he was not involved in the murder of Mukhtar Hussain and said that the police had included his name in the list of the accused at a later stage.

He said that his political rival, Haji Nawaz, who was contesting election against him, had opened indiscriminate fire on a procession of his supporters. His brother had also received injuries as a result of the firing. He said that the police, instead of registering an FIR against the respondent, involved him in the case.

He prayed to the court to direct the respondent police high-ups to get the case re-investigated through some 'honest' police official and release him on bail till the completion of the investigations.

The court granted him bail and directed him to submit two surety bonds of Rs 5 million each to the satisfaction of the Registrar of the court.
