Seven prisoners released

KARACHI: The district west administration on Tuesday released seven prisoners, involved in minor cases, from Landhi and Central Jails. A spokesman for the district west administration said the action has been taken on the directive of Sindh government that prisoners involved in minor cases should be released so that they could celebrate Eidul Fitr with the nearest and dearest. The release prisoners are Gulzar, Mustafa, Abdul Rauf, Akhtar Muhammad, Khan Badshah, Shoukat Ali, and Nasir Khan.ÑAPP

Jhang DBA polls on 15th

JHANG: Elections for the District Bar Association will be held on January 15, according to the schedule announced here on Tuesday. Ch Shabbir Ahmed and Syed Salim Shah are the likely candidates for DBA presidentship. Mumtaz Ahmed Khichi has started canvassing for the post of General Secretary while no other candidate has come into the field so far.ÑAPP

Valuables thru insured post

LAHORE: The despatch of currency notes, gold, diamonds, ornaments and other valuables articles through post is prohibited unless and until the same are insured. The Post office Department has advised people to send all their valuables through insured parcels/letter post.ÑAPP

Desilting of 137 canals begins

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Desilting of 137 canals and distributaries of 783 miles' length in DG Khan division was started on Monday by 1,800 army men, thousands of government employees and the masses. The work will be completed by next month and will help bring about a green revolution in the area, said official.ÑAPP
