Govt urged to

include Quaid's

watch words

in Eid greetings

KARACHI: The Father of the Nation, Quaid-i-Azam, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, in an Eid message in October 1941 had clearly stated that our-watch word should be "Faith, Unity and Discipline".

This was stated on Tuesday by noted biographer of Quaid-i-Azam, Rizwan Ahmed who has authored 24 books and about 1,000 columns on him.

He said that these three golden words in the original sequence were published in 1942 in famous book entitled "Speeches and writings of Mr Jinnah" by Prof Jamiluddin Ahmed.

Rizwan Ahmed said that the Pakistan Government adopted the original monumental words and inscribed the same in its insignia or emblem as "Iman, Ittehad and Nazm".

He said it is crystal clear, factual and right slogan given by the Father of the Nation.

Rizwan Ahmed maintained that the sequences of these words were "distorted and hijacked with ulterior motives."

He stated Faith was clouded or sandwiched between Unity and Discipline long before.

He said the "distorted version has captured the minds of the people particularly those who were at the helm of affairs of Pakistan in the past. They remained captive and were prey of this confusion."

Rizwan said that for the obvious reasons that Faith (Iman) inspires Unity (Ittehad) and not otherwise.

He said it is high time to take "serious notice in the interest of the nation and the state and nip in the bud the distorted wrong version of the watch word of 'Faith, Unity and Discipline.'

He appealed to President Rafiq Tarar and Chief Executive Gen Pervez Musharraf to include these golden words in their Eid message in January 2000 in the same sequence as Quaid used the Government adopted in their Eid message.ÑAPP
